Vision Statement

Alnwick in Bloom’s vision is to improve the appearance of Alnwick, making it a more attractive place for residents and visitors.

Our strategy is to:

• To create opportunities that encourages involvement from all sections of the community and offer advice and support to stimulate initiatives. This includes visiting schools, offering financial assistance, planning and practical help.

• To pursue a policy of continuous improvement in the provision and maintenance of sustainable public, private and commercial planting schemes, consistent with the historic market town of Alnwick.

• To do this we work on an annual action plan to:

o Encourage interest from all sectors of the community, including schools and community groups, by promoting competitions, providing advice, practical assistance, planning and design and, where feasible, financial assistance

o Promote sustainable practices in all activities

o Provide opportunities and encouragement and work with other organisations for community involvement in maintaining civic pride

o Create partnerships with the commercial and public sectors.

• Work with Alnwick Town Council and Northumberland County Council to ensure that high standards are achieved for the following:
o Mown grass plots
o Formal floral beds
o Formal shrubs and rose beds
o Decorative floral displays
o Fixed planting containers
o Temporary planting containers, eg hanging baskets
o Tree planting and maintenance

We recognise that as a small committee with a modest budget, community engagement and partnership working are crucial to our success.

The Alnwick in Bloom Committee has a long and illustrious history of helping Alnwick to look beautiful throughout the summer months, and we are now hoping to attract donations and sponsorship to extend this work.

We have written to local businesses with an offer that will raise the profile of each business that agrees to take part, while providing a very real improvement in the look of Alnwick, to encourage more tourists to visit and enjoy the town, and tell their friends about us.

There are several ways businesses can help:

1. Flower beds: There are several ways a flower bed in Alnwick can be sponsored. To create, plant and maintain a new flower bed will cost up to £1,000, depending on the size and complexity of design. Northumberland County Council has agreed to maintain the beds. However, up to five sponsors can share an area - to part-sponsor a new bed or plant up an existing bed will cost £200 to £500. After a visit from a member of our team to show you the areas in question, you will be able to choose which flower bed you would like to sponsor

2. Tree planting: To further enhance Alnwick, we propose to provide additional trees for the grass areas on the southern approach into town and other grass plots throughout the town. The trees will be of a generous size and Northumberland County Council has agreed to plant and maintain the trees. This is a longer-term project and planting is planned for next November. The cost of the trees is £110 for three trees.

For both the flower beds and tree planting, each sponsor will have their company or organisation's name prominently displayed AND they will be listed in the Northumberland Gazette’s Roll of Honour.

3. We also need to hang as many flower baskets as possible all over town and each basket will cost just £30, installed for you and maintained all summer. What a bargain!
